I…love….my…smoker. Period. Full stop.
Several years ago, at the beginning of the pandemic, I was in the market for a new smoker. I had a Masterbuilt cabinet smoker, which was fine, and a Weber Spirit II gas grill https://amzn.to/45sdiMe , which worked awesome but like most gas grills…it lacked a certain flavor profile and a definite cool factor. I decided that I needed something to do with all this spare time I had on my hands since we were on lockdown, and I wanted to consolidate and clear up some deck space. So while doom-scrolling on Amazon, I came across the solution. Enter the Masterbuilt Gravity Series. This thing was awesome. It was PLC controlled, like all those fancy pellet grills, but unlike all those pellet grills this thing was charcoal…the king of fuel sources.
Also, it could run cool smoking temps for hours and hours (which you can adjust from anywhere in the world using the app!), but also crank up some serious heat and get over 700 degrees to sear meat, cook a pizza, or warm a 4 block radius on a cool fall day. I haven’t run across a hunk of meat that this thing can’t make better. It sears masterfully, smokes to perfection (and gets a righteous smoke ring), and has 3 different sizes so you can find one to fit your family. The charcoal sits in the hopper on the side and feeds down into the burn box as the fuel is depleted. You can add wood to the hopper or to the ash pan. Everything is incredibly easy to use. I started with the 560 (replaced by the 600), which is the smaller version. You can find that here: https://amzn.to/3z8U1TE. That version worked so well for me that I outgrew it and decided to go for the big boy, the 1050 (link: https://amzn.to/3RqvDDm), which can cook several briskets at a time, an obscene number of pork butts and ribs, and can grill enough meat and veggies to feed almost any normal gathering. They also both have the finest constructed covers I’ve ever seen (600 – https://amzn.to/3VjSOR7 and the 1050 – https://amzn.to/4c3Wsph). There’s also an 800 series which is the in-between size, but as I’ve promised not to recommend anything I haven’t used, I won’t post the links here.
I’ve also really grown to love my Inkbird meat temp thermometer https://amzn.to/3Xib9k7. Its wifi enabled so I can track temps from anywhere, has a wide range of settings, and is very easy to use. It is wired probes, but I’ve heard those are less error and damage prone than the bluetooth versions.
I did say I would keep these posts short, so I’m gone bounce, but do me a favor…this is one of those posts that’s designed to be an honest assessment and recommendation, but also I’d love for it to bring in a couple of bucks. If you decide to buy any of these items, can you hook a brother up and use the links provided? Thanks and you rock! Now get to grillin!
